Bengaluru, Sept. 4 -- N Jagadeesan's brilliant ton and Devdutt Padikkal's steady half-century guided South Zone to a commanding 297 for 3 against North Zone on day one of the Duleep Trophy first semifinal at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence Ground today.
North Zone, after winning the toss, opted to field first but struggled to make early inroads as the pitch offered minimal assistance to the bowlers.
The opening pair of Jagadeesan and Tanmay Agarwal got South Zone off to a solid start, adding 79 without loss by lunch. Tanmay was particularly alert in rotating the strike and punishing loose deliveries, while Jagadeesan played a cautious first session, accumulating runs steadily.
