Shillong, Dec. 26 -- Boxing Day - it's not only a day for opening boxes full of Christmas gifts but it's time for grand feasts in the predominantly Christian-inhabited Meghalaya.
The Feast of Saint Stephen, the first Christian martyr, is observed on Boxing Day, the day after Christmas.
Boxing Day got that name because it was the tradition for employers to give a Christmas gift to their staff on that day - a Christmas box, as it was called, Mathias Lyngdoh explained.
Boxing Day is also part of the Christian / Catholic 12 days of Christmas tradition, and is offically classed as the second day of Christmastide.
