Jerusalem, Sept. 18 -- The Israeli political leadership is noted to have become increasingly distant from the military command, due to the latter's disagreements with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's bid to conquer Gaza City.

This was particularly noted to be the case for IDF commander Lt Gen Eyal Zamir, who said it would endanger both the hostages and the troops, and backed the ceasefire - hostage release deal, which Netanyahu and his war cabinet had scrapped.
