Tel Aviv, May 19 -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) plans to strengthen operational control in the Palestinian enclave, divide it into parts and move the population to safe areas as part of a new large-scale operation in the Gaza Strip, IDF spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin said on Sunday.
"We are entering a new phase of combat operations. During the operation, we will expand and deepen our operational presence in the Gaza Strip, divide it into parts and move the population to safe areas - wherever we operate," Defrin said at a briefing.
The spokesperson noted that a large-scale mobilization of reservists had been carried out before the operation, and five divisions were currently operating in the Strip.
