Jerusalem, April 22 -- Israel's military said on Tuesday it carried out an airstrike in Lebanon, killing a militant affiliated with Jamaa Islamiya, a group allied with Hamas and Hezbollah.

In a statement, the military identified the target as Hussein Izzat Mohammad Atwi, who it said was involved in "planning and advancing terrorist activity from Lebanon into Israeli territory," and was working to attack Israeli forces along the northern border.

According to the Israeli military, Atwi also took part in launching rockets, coordinating militant infrastructure, attempting cross-border infiltrations, and planning attacks against Israelis abroad.
