New Delhi, Aug. 13 -- Israel today slammed the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), the UN-backed body that classifies famine levels worldwide, for manipulating the bar on famine in Gaza and described it as a political move and not a humanitarian one.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement on X that the IPC had discreetly modified its classification metrics that it uses for other conflict zones, to inflate the figures in Gaza. Furthermore, their data relies heavily on unverifiable sources, such as the Hamas-run Gaza "Health Ministry".

It said the IPC is a major player in shaping the narrative on Gaza, exerting pressure on Israel and vilifying it with false accusations of starvation.
