London, July 31 -- Heavy metal legends Iron Maiden paid a tribute to the band's original frontman Paul Mario Day, who passed away at his home in Australia aged 69, calling him 'a wonderful person.'
Taking to Instagram, the band wrote: "We are deeply saddened that Paul Mario Day, Iron Maiden's first ever vocalist back in 1975, has passed away. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to Paul's family and friends."
"Paul was a lovely person and good mate. Rest in peace Paul", the message added.
While not featured in any of the band's studio albums, Day was the band's first singer upon its formation in 1975, and fronted the band for almost a year before being replaced by Dennis Wilcock in 1976, who was later replaced by Paul Di Ann...
