Nagpur, Aug. 20 -- An irked tea-stall owner allegedly tried to set himself on fire during an anti-encroachment drive on Nagpur Railway Station Road, a senior police official told UNI today.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when a squad from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation was clearing hawkers between Jaistambh Square and Manas Square, he said.
According to police, a heated confrontation unfolded near Nagpur Railway Station when a street vendor, facing eviction during an anti-encroachment operation, attempted to set himself on fire.
However, police acted swiftly and stopped the self-harm bid, the official said.
The vendor's mother also attempted to interfere with the police's efforts, resulting in a tense but swift intervention.
