Baghdad, Feb. 22 -- The Iraqi military said on Friday that its forces had destroyed 25 sites used by Islamic State (IS) militants in a mountainous area in northern Iraq.
Forces from Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service carried out an operation in the Makhmour area, some 100 km southeast of Nineveh's provincial capital, Mosul, and destroyed 18 IS hideouts and seven tunnels, according to a statement from the Security Media Cell, a media outlet affiliated with the Iraqi Joint Operations Command.
The forces also found human remains, as well as explosive devices, ammunition, two drones, a motorcycle, and other logistical materials, the statement said, without giving further details about the human remains.
