Tehran, March 2 -- A majority of lawmakers in the Iranian parliament voted on Sunday to impeach Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Abdolnaser Hemmati, Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported.

Out of 273 lawmakers, 182 voted in favor of the impeachment, while 89 voted against.

The Iranian parliament launched impeachment proceedings against Hemmati on February 19.

The reason cited for the parliament's decision was Hemmati's inability to deal with economic concerns, primarily inflation and financial instability.
