Tehran, April 29 -- Senior Iranian lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi, deputy head of parliament's national security committee, has warned that Tehran could escalate its response to the US naval blockade, raising the prospect of further disruption across key global shipping routes.
Boroujerdi said Iran could retaliate directly for interdictions and vessel seizures linked to the blockade of its ports.
He claimed Iranian forces could "easily respond" by seizing ships operating in the region and bringing them into Iranian waters, adding that the country had not yet revealed the full extent of its capabilities.
