Tehran, March 23 -- Iran on Monday warned to mine key communication routes in the Persian Gulf if its coastline or islands are attacked.
Iran's National Defence Council said any attempt to target its territory would result in "all communication lines in the Persian Gulf" being mined, adding that vessels would only be able to transit the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with Tehran.
"Any attempt by the enemy to attack Iranian coasts or islands will naturally, and in accordance with common military practice, cause all access routes and communication lines in the Persian Gulf and the coasts to be mined with various types of naval mines, including floating mines that can be released from the coasts," the statement said.
