Tehran, June 13 -- Iran requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in response to the Israeli strikes on Iran on Friday, a letter by the Iranian permanent mission to the United Nations read.
"This is to confirm that the Iranian Mission to the UN has called on the Security Council to hold an emergency session," the letter, seen by Sputnik, read.
On Friday, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) launched large-scale operation Rising Lion, striking Iranian military targets and nuclear program sites. According to preliminary information, Israel struck at least 60 sites across eight provinces in Iran.
