Tehran, Dec. 29 -- Iran on Sunday launched three domestically built satellites into low orbit, aboard a Russian built Soyuz rocket, deepening Tehran's ties on space cooperation with Moscow. According to Western assessments, the technology utilised was also applicable to long-range missile development.
The satellites were launched from Russia's Vostochny Cosmodrome as part of a multi-payload mission which according to Iranian officials was the country's seventh satellite launch carried out using Russian launch vehicles.
The spacecraft were placed into a sun-synchronous orbit alongside a large cluster of mostly Russian satellites, as well as satellites from partner countries including Belarus, Kuwait and Montenegro.
