Shillong, March 21 -- The Meghalaya High Court has expressed surprise over the Meghalaya Police for investigating a death case of a police trainee from Assam for the past three years without filing a charge sheet.

"This court is quite perplexed to hear that after three years the investigation could not be completed; hence, no charge sheet could be filed," Chief Justice I.P. Mukherji said in his ruling on Friday.

According to preliminary reports, the victim died due to drowning in a swimming pool at the North Eastern Police Academy at Umiam on March 9, 2022.

According to the victim's family, which lodged the first information report, there were 29 policemen near the victim, and that the case of drowning by accident is not to be accepted...
