Miami, Oct. 8 -- Inter Miami defender Jordi Alba has announced his retirement after a professional career spanning almost two decades.
The 36-year-old former Barcelona and Spain left-back is under contract with Inter Miami until December 2027, but said he will step away at the end of the current MLS season.
"The time has come to close a truly meaningful chapter in my life," Alba said in a video on Instagram.
"I've decided to bring my professional football career to an end at the conclusion of this season. I do so with complete conviction, peace, and happiness."Alba, who was released by Barcelona as a teenager, rejoined the Catalan club in 2012 after a successful spell at Valencia.
