Tokyo, Aug. 14 -- Higher temperatures are expected on Thursday in western Japan, including areas hit by recent torrential rain, according to the country's weather agency.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said clear skies are expected to prevail over the region, driving temperatures up to 37 degrees in Saga, Hita in Oita Prefecture, Kurume in Fukuoka Prefecture and Osaka.

A daytime high of 36 degrees Celsius is forecast in cities including Kumamoto, Yamaguchi and Kyoto, and 35 degrees Celsius in cities including Kochi and Nagoya, the JMA said.

Weather officials said rain clouds could develop in some areas in the afternoon due to unstable atmospheric conditions in western and eastern Japan.
