Srinagar, Jan. 8 -- An intense cold wave gripped Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, as several places across the two union territories recording lowest temperature of the season.
In the Kashmir Valley, popular tourist destinations and higher reaches remained the coldest. Sonamarg registered the lowest temperature in Kashmir at -9.8degC, followed closely by Gulmarg at -9.2degC and Pahalgam at -8.6degC. Shopian also shivered at -7.8degC.
The summer capital Srinagar settled at -5.1degC, sharply down from -1.6degC the preceding night, marking a significant drop, the meteorological department said.
