Chandigarh, March 27 -- In a blow to the prestige of Punjab's premier cooperative brand, the Indian Army has rejected a massive consignment of approximately 125 metric tonnes of whole milk powder supplied by Verka after samples failed to meet the required quality standards.
The Army Service Corps (ASC) unit based in Jammu has issued a formal notice to the Ludhiana District Cooperative Milk Producers Union, stating that two batches consisting of 58.338 tonnes and 66.654 tonnes have been deemed unfit. The military authorities have directed the cooperative to retrieve the rejected samples within seven days, failing which they will be destroyed by a committee of officers.
