Siliguri, Oct. 5 -- Responding swiftly to an emergency evacuation request from the neighbouring nation of Bhutan, the Indian Army today launched two helicopters from its Siliguri base to undertake a critical rescue mission in the Phuentsholing area, a border district of Bhutan, closed to West Bengal's northern district of Alipurduar.
Amidst unprecedented floods triggered by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, incessant rainfall led to the swelling of the Torsa River, inundating vast areas across West Bengal and Bhutan, a defence communique said.
