New Delhi, Jan. 3 -- India on Saturday issued an urgent travel advisory for its citizens in Venezuela following a dramatic escalation in the country's security situation.

The Ministry of External Affairs strongly advised Indian nationals to avoid all non-essential travel to the South American nation and urged those already there to remain vigilant.

The advisory comes in the wake of significant "recent developments," referring to a series of pre-dawn US airstrikes across Venezuela and the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, by US forces.
