New Delhi, May 2 -- India will host the World Para Athletics Championship in September and October this year.

This was announced today by Devendra Jhajharia, Padma Bhushan and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee, and President of the Paralympic Committee of India. He said the championships will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi from September 27 to October 5.

Over 2,500 top athletes from more than 100 countries are expected to participate in the championships.

Jhajharia said that the WPA Championships is the largest event for any single sports discipline outside of the Paralympics, held once every two years. India will host the event after the prestigious editions in Kobe and Paris.
