Umroi, Sept. 3 -- The 14th edition of the India-Thailand joint military Exercise "MAITREE-XIV" began at the joint training node in Meghalaya's Umroi Cantonment today.
The two-week exercise will continue until September 14 as part of the bilateral "military-to-military exchange programme" between the two countries.
"The objective of such military exercise is to enhance cooperation, interoperability and mutual understanding between the Indian Army and the Royal Thai Army," a defence official said.
He said the objective of this joint exercise is to emphasise "company level counter-terrorist operations in semi-urban terrain" under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.
