New Delhi, Sept. 16 -- Road Transport and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari today said that India has surpassed Japan to become the third-largest automobile market globally, and the government is targeting the number one position within the next five years.

"All major global automobile brands are now present in India. Their focus has shifted from merely assembling to exporting vehicles from India to the world," Gadkari was quoted as saying in an official statement here.

He unveiled an ambitious roadmap to position India as the world's leading hub for automobile manufacturing, green mobility, and infrastructure innovation at the International Value Summit 2025, held here.
