Chennai, Sept. 26 -- union Minister for Ports, Shipping and WaterwaysSarbananda Sonowal said an India Ship Technology Centre (ISTC) will beestablished at the Indian Maritime University (IMU) Campus at Vizag ata cost of Rs. 305 crore.

It will be an agency responsible for the overall development of the capabilitiesof the Indian shipbuilding sector, he said, while delivering the Convocationaddress at the IMU here today.

The ISTC will provide a common platform for the shipbuilding industry byproviding access to common facilities, skilling of future personnel andproviding a productive ecosystem for ship design, R and D, engineeringcapabilities etc, he added.
