Pune, Feb. 15 -- Former union Home Secretary Gopalakrishna Pillai on Sunday lamented what he described as the government's "inexcusable neglect of road safety, despite India ranking first globally in the number of fatalities caused by road accidents.
Speaking at the Dr. Madhav Godbole Memorial Lecture organised by 'Sarhad' at Tilak Smarak Mandir here, Pillai said road safety has failed to receive serious attention over the past two to three decades.
Dr. Godbole was an outstanding administrator who served as union home secretary, finance secretrary and in several other departments at the state and central levels.
