Bengaluru, Feb. 11 -- India's ambitious fifth-generation fighter jet project has moved beyond the design phase, with the first prototype expected to take flight by late 2028 or early 2029, Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Samir V Kamat said on Tuesday.
"We got a sanction for the fifth-generation fighter jet in 2024. The design phase is now over. We expect that the first prototype should fly by the end of 2028 or early 2029 and then we hope to complete all the development and we expect that the production should start by 2035," Kamat told reporters on the sidelines of an Aero India event here.
