Ranchi, Oct. 25 -- The Fourth South Asian Athletics Federation (SAFF) Senior Athletics Championship 2025 began with great enthusiasm at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium, Morhabadi, where athletes from across South Asia showcased outstanding performances on the opening day.
The championship, inaugurated on Thursday, witnessed India's dominance, as the host nation clinched five gold medals, reaffirming its athletic superiority in the region.
The highlight of the day was the men's 5000m race, where India's Prince Kumar delivered a stellar performance, securing the first gold medal of the championship with a time of 14 minutes 22.17 seconds. He outpaced Sri Lanka's Vakshan Vicknraj (14:23.21) and Nepal's Mukesh Bahadur Pal (14:25.25).
