New Delhi, April 8 -- India on Wednesday welcomed the ceasefire announced in West Asia, expressing hope that the development will pave the way for lasting peace in a region where prolonged conflict has caused immense human suffering and disrupted global energy flows.
Issued during an inter-ministerial government briefing at the National Media Centre in the national capital, the statement reiterated India's consistent call for dialogue, diplomacy and de-escalation, stressing that uninterrupted commercial movement through the Strait of Hormuz must be ensured to safeguard global trade.
The Government also said it hopes the ceasefire will encourage similar efforts toward peace in Ukraine.
