New Delhi, Sept. 9 -- In view of the escalating violence in Nepal, India today asked its citizens to defer travel to the Himalayan neighbour until the situation there stabilises.

In an advisory, India also asked its citizens in Nepal to avoid going on the streets and keep in touch with the Indian Embassy.

"In view of the developing situation in Nepal, Indian citizens are advised to defer travel there until the situation has stabilised. Indian citizens presently in Nepal are advised to shelter in their current places of residence, avoid going out onto the streets and exercise all due caution.
