New Delhi, Aug. 28 -- India and Canada today named new high commissioners to each other's countries, filling up posts that had remained vacant for 10 months. The promising development comes two months after PM Modi and Canadian PM Mark Carney held a bilateral meeting on June 17, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada.

India today named senior diplomat Dinesh K Patnaik as its new High commissioner to Canada, while Ottawa named Christopher Cooter as its new top envoy in New Delhi.

The posts had remained vacant for over 10 months following the tit-for-tat expulsion of each other's envoys in October last year, as diplomatic ties reached a nadir under then Canadian PM Justin Trudeau and his pandering of pro-Khalistani elements...
