Kolkata, April 17 -- The Income Tax Department on Friday conducted raids at the residence of TMC Rasbehari's outgoing MLA Debasish Kumar, triggering political tension in the area ahead of the Assembly elections.
Sources said officials began searches early in the morning at Kumar's residence on Manoharpukur Road in south Kolkata. The TMC candidate was present at home when the raid started.
Simultaneously, searches are being carried out at his election office located nearby, as well as at a party office on Motilal Nehru Road.
Central forces have been deployed outside all three locations, where Income Tax officials are conducting searches. The exact reason behind the raids was not immediately clear.
