New Delhi, April 1 -- From April 1, 2026, the Income-tax Act, 2025 has officially replaced the 64-year-old Income-tax Act, 1961 as India's primary direct tax legislation.
The Income Tax Act 2025 is a landmark reform in India's direct tax framework that represents a comprehensive effort to simplify and modernise the country's income tax law replacing the six-decade-old Income Tax Act 1961, said an official statement of the Finance Ministry here.
