Srinagar, April 14 -- The Indian Army on Monday brought electricity to Simari - a remote border village near Teetwal in Kashmir's Kupwara district - for the first time, marking a historic moment with the inauguration of a solar power project.

Srinagar based defence spokesman said the inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of large border population including women, children, local elders and civil dignitaries.

The emotionally charged gathering reflected a deep sense of pride, gratitude, and unity, as light brought happiness to homes and a soldier's legacy was honoured at the Nation's edge, he said.
