Chennai, Aug. 16 -- For the first time in Tamil Nadu, an Economic Offender was
detained under the Goondas Act in Dindigul distric.
A release from Economic Offences Wing of the State Police today said, in the light
of rising incidences of financial frauds, the Tamil Nadu Government through an order
dated Juy 8, 2025 has empowered to detain Economic Offenders under the provisions
of the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders,
Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders, Forest Offenders, Sand Offenders, Slum Grabbers
and Video Pirates Act 1982 ( Act 14 of 1982), commonly known as the Goondas Act.
