Chennai, April 24 -- Yesterday's Tamil Nadu Assembly elections would got into the record books, having witnessed an all time high turnout of 85.11 per cent in the State's electoral history since Independence, perhaps due to the shinking of total electorate by 10.6 per cent due to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

The unprecedented turnout, basically attributed to the (SIR exercise undertaken by the ECI, eclipsed the previous best of 78.01 per cent recorded in 2011 elections, that saw AIADMK headed by J Jayalalithaa storm back to power and consolidiated it further by retaining power for a second consecutive terms in the next polls in 2016, emulating the record of her political mentor and AIADMK Founder MGR, who had won for three polls o...
