Srinagar, Dec. 21 -- In a first, a Food Corporation of India (FCI) food grain freight train reached the Kashmir Valley on Sunday, marking a major milestone in strengthening the region's supply chain.

The train, comprising 21 BCN wagons, departed from Ajitwal Goods Shed in the Firozpur Division in Punjab and arrived at the Anantnag Goods Terminal today, officials said.

Jointly operated by the Railways and the FCI, the initiative is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted supply of essential food grains to Kashmir, which frequently faces shortages due to prolonged closures of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway during harsh weather conditions.
