New Delhi, March 11 -- Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai introduced The Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday amid demands from the Congress and other Opposition parties that the legislation be withdrawn as it violated fundamental rights.
The opposition also demanded the bill be referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC)/
Congress member Manish Tewari said the bill "is a violation of our fundamental rights on many counts".
"Either this bill should be withdrawn or should be referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for very careful consideration, because it violates multiple articles of the fundamental rights under the Constitution of India," he said.
