Shimla, Oct. 4 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a prolonged spell of inclement weather over Himachal Pradesh from October 5 to 9, driven by the combined impact of severe cyclonic storm "Shakhti" over the northeast Arabian Sea and successive Western Disturbances (WDs) moving across northwestern India.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, "The severe cyclonic storm 'Shakhti' over the northeast Arabian Sea moved westwards with a speed of 18 kmph during the last six hours and lay centered near latitude 22.0degN and longitude 64.5degE, about 470 km west of Dwarka, 470 km west-southwest of Naliya and 420 km southwest of Karachi (Pakistan)."
