Mumbai, Sept. 10 -- The Indian Medical Association (IMA) strongly objected to the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC)'s decision to allow homoeopathy practitioners with a one-year bridge course in pharmacology as Modern Medicine Practitioners (MMPs), enabling them to practise allopathy.
The decision has sparked strong opposition again from allopathy doctors and IMA has demanded immediate withdrawal of the decision, calling it "dangerous" and "a threat to public health".
According to the IMA, the government's order is in contempt of court as the matter is already pending before the High Court.
IMA state president Dr. Santosh Kadam said the decision undermines medical science and could compromise patient safety.
