Chennai, Oct. 30 -- Researchers at Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-Madras) have achieved a significant milestone innext-generation flight technology by successfully demonstrating a real-time hybrid rocket thruster embedded in a hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) framework for Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft.
In a sophisticated experiment that combined a real-time hybrid rocket thruster with a virtual simulation, the researchers achieved the necessary velocity for 'soft landing', a crucial feature for all craft ranging from planetary landing of unmanned or manned exploration module to terrestrial landing of a VTOL aircraft, a PIB release said here today.
