Kanpur, Oct. 1 -- A final-year BTech student of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur was found dead in his hostel room under tragic circumstances, police confirmed today.
The student, identified as Dheeraj Saini, was a resident of Mahendragarh district in Haryana.
According to campus sources, Dheeraj had not been seen by his peers for two days.
On the third day, fellow students noticed a foul smell coming from his room (Hostel No. 1, Room 123) and informed IIT authorities and local police. Upon arrival, police personnel entered the locked room and discovered the student's body was hanging from the ceiling.
