Shimla, Sept. 9 -- In a breakthrough for pediatric surgery in Himachal Pradesh, Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla has successfully carried out its first-ever thoracoscopic repair of left hemidiaphragm eventration in a five-month-old infant.

The patient, a preterm baby weighing 2.8 kg at birth, was admitted with recurrent chest infections, tachypnoea and oxygen desaturation.

After being referred from Rippon Hospital to the Department of Pediatrics, IGMC, a detailed evaluation revealed diaphragmatic eventration, a condition where abnormal diaphragm movement causes respiratory distress.
