Shimla, Oct. 3 -- A team of doctors at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, has successfully performed a rare and highly complex surgery on a two-day-old infant suffering from a congenital condition known as Esophageal Atresia with Tracheoesophageal Fistula (EA/TEF).

The newborn, weighing 2.4 kilograms, was delivered at Kamla Nehru Hospital (KNH), Shimla. Soon after birth, the baby exhibited excessive salivation. Following failed attempts to insert an orogastric tube, the infant was immediately referred to IGMC.

Under the supervision of Dr. Praveen Bhardwaj, the baby was admitted to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and operated on at two days old.
