Bengaluru, May 8 -- Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday questioned the reported denial of an opportunity to TVK to form the government in Tamil Nadu, invoking the example of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to stress that the majority must be tested only on the floor of the House.
"Did Vajpayee not get a chance?" Shivakumar asked while criticising the Tamil Nadu Governor's reported refusal to invite TVK to stake a claim despite its bid to prove majority.
Speaking to reporters at Vidhana Soudha, he said constitutional practice and democratic principles required that the single largest party or alliance be given an opportunity to form the government and seek a trust vote.
