Mumbai, Apr 27 ( UNI) The proposal to rename Mumbai's historic King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital to 'Kaushalya Shrestha Eklavya Memorial Hospital' has ignited a political and social storm.While the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Health Committee has given its preliminary approval, the move faces stiff resistance from the opposition and the medical fraternity.Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha initiated the request, arguing that colonial-era names are "remnants of slavery" and should be replaced with names reflecting Indian culture and values.
