Hyderabad, Oct. 3 -- In a landmark move to strengthen food and feed security in the Caribbean, the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) has entered into a strategic partnership with the CARICOM Private Sector Organisation (CPSO) and SEPROD, the region's largest food and FMCG distributor.
The collaboration will fast-track the development of superior forage and dual-purpose sorghum varieties in Jamaica to tackle a 20-30 per cent forage shortage that has suppressed milk yields below viable levels. By enhancing livestock productivity and promoting climate resilience, the initiative aims to help CARICOM cut its US$6 billion annual food import bill by 25 per cent by 2030, a ICRISAT statement said on Friday....
