Hyderabad, Jan. 2 -- A new ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) study shows that a population-wide "Screen and Treat for Anaemia Reduction (STAR)" strategy can significantly reduce anaemia, especially among adolescent girls and women of reproductive age.

The study conducted in 14 villages in Telangana and published in BMJ Global Health, the cluster-randomised trial involved doorstep haemoglobin screening and iron-folic acid (IFA) supplementation based on individual anaemia status, the Hyderabad-based institute said in a release here on Friday.

Individuals aged 6 months to 50 year were actively screened for anaemica at the community level.
