Chennai, March 8 -- In a major operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) successfully intercepted a drug-laden
vessel in Indian waters and seized 30 kgs hashish oil worth Rs 32.95 crore and
prevented illegal transshipment of the same to the Maldives by detaining nine crew
members.
A Defence release here on Saturday said the DRI shared intelligence about a
possible drug consignment aboard a Tug Boat named 'Shwe Lin Yone' with a
barge under tow, en-route from Tuticorin to Male, The Maldives, on March 5
around 1500 hrs.
Acting swiftly, the ICG diverted two of its ships, which intercepted the suspect
vessel south of the Gulf of Mannar, in the night.
