Hyderabad, Nov. 29 -- Anaya Sharma, a eight -year-old student of Hyderabad Public School, has won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2025 held recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Competing in the Under-8 girls category, Anaya secured an impressive score of 8/9, including a perfect 7/7 start, defeating several top-seeded players and emerging as the champion for India.

Speaking to reporters here today, Anaya said her dream is to become a Woman Grandmaster.

Her parents, Gaurav Sharma and Aarti Bolaki, said she began playing chess at the age of five during the Kalpataru Summer Camp at Ekagra and is currently training at Maestro Chess Academy, Attapur in the city.
